Jersey Pearl has been at Grande Route des Mielles in St Ouen since Fred Scragg opened a 15,000 sq ft showroom there in 1985, having travelled the world as an engineer before falling for pearls and deciding to build something on the island. Forty years on it's still family-run, now led by the third and fourth generations, and still draws visitors for its Pick-a-Pearl experience - choosing your own Akoya oyster, watching it opened, and picking a setting for the pearl inside - plus a working pearl workshop where you can watch the stringers at the bench. Beyond the showroom's designer pearl jewellery - earrings, necklaces, bracelets and rings from £19, alongside the Jersey-themed Ormer collection - the St Ouen site has the Pearl Café serving local food with views across the bay, and a sun terrace to sit out on. Jersey Pearl also has smaller shops on King Street in St Helier and on Gorey Pier, so there's a choice between the full day-out destination in St Ouen or a quicker browse in town.
